Dr. Yogi Vikashananda: The Visionary Behind the Manokranti Movement

Dr. Yogi Vikashananda is a transformative spiritual leader, philosopher, and reformer whose pioneering work in consciousness, yoga, and holistic living has shaped a generation of seekers in Nepal and beyond. He is the founder of the Manokranti Movement—a revolutionary philosophy of mental transformation—and a living embodiment of ancient wisdom in a modern world.

Early Life and Background

Born on July 16, 1962 (2nd Asar 2018 BS), Dr. Vikashananda’s extraordinary life began under unusual circumstances—found as a baby at the Ganesh Temple in Chhetrapati, Kathmandu and adopted by a childless couple. A curious and creative child, he struggled with formal schooling but excelled in painting. His talents took him to the Soviet Union in 1979, where he represented Nepal in an international painting competition at age 17.

Gradually shifting from painting to writing, he immersed himself in publishing and teaching—editing a tri-monthly magazine and producing weekly periodicals that revealed his deep philosophical leanings and creative intellect.

Spiritual Awakening and Journey to India

In 1983, at the age of 21, he embarked on a spiritual quest to Kashi (Varanasi), India, enrolling at Sampurnananda Sanskrit Vishwavidyalaya. His studies in Sanskrit and philosophy, combined with meditation under Mahasthavira Nanda Dynasty in a Burmese monastery, laid the foundation for his inner transformation.

During a meditation in Naraha, Janakpur, he experienced a profound awakening—merging with the infinite consciousness in what he called, “Samim Aham Asim Brahman.” This turning point gifted him with clarity, courage, and a sense of divine purpose.

Return to Nepal and Early Contributions

After six years in India, Dr. Vikashananda returned to Nepal in 1989 and established the Ananda Yoga Centre in Kathmandu. He became a pioneer in blending traditional practices with modern science. In 1991, he began Yog-Sadhana, a televised program that introduced yoga to Nepali households.

By 1994, he was offering teacher training at his Matatirtha-based center and introduced Psycho-Cybernetics—a self-transformation system new to Nepal. He also popularized Reiki, eventually founding the Reiki Healers Association Nepal and initiating over 5,000 healers.

International Reach and Scientific Validation

Dr. Vikashananda’s teachings began to attract global recognition. In 1995, he participated in a Kundalini energy test at NIMHANS, Bangalore. Brainwave analysis during his meditation revealed rare patterns: simultaneous activation of beta, alpha, theta, and delta waves.

That same year, he was invited to Brazil for the World Yoga Conference, where he taught in universities and founded the Siddhi-Sadhana Group. His three-month stay brought him national media attention. In 1997, he toured the United States, teaching various disciplines including SuperLearning, Reiki, and Hatha Yoga.

In 1998, he received an M.D. (A.M.) degree from the Indian Board of Alternative Medicines—a formal recognition of his extensive work in holistic healing.

The Manokranti Movement

In 1988 (2045 BS), Dr. Vikashananda founded the Manokranti Movement—a Sanskrit phrase meaning “Revolution of the Mind.” Its core philosophy: all human problems originate in the mind, and lasting change begins through conscious transformation.

With the motto, “Let’s change ourselves to change the world,” the movement integrates:

  • Yoga and meditation
  • Reiki and Psycho-Cybernetics
  • SuperLearning techniques
  • Natural and mindful living

In 2006 (2063 BS), the Manokranti Matrix was established in Godavari, Lalitpur, where a five-year residential program trained over 150 practitioners who spread Manokranti across all 75 districts of Nepal, Sikkim, and Darjeeling. Today, the movement has 15 international branches.

Core Principles of Manokranti

  • Mind as the Root: All suffering and solutions are mental.
  • Consciousness as Freedom: Aligning with your soul frees you.
  • Holistic Living: Physical, emotional, and spiritual practices must align.
  • Change Begins Within: Individual transformation leads to societal reform.

Literary Contributions and Media Presence

Dr. Vikashananda is a prolific writer with over 70 books in Nepali, Hindi, English, and Sanskrit, including philosophical classics like Mirtuu Pachi Ke (“What Happens After Death?”). From 1999 to 2001, he hosted discourse shows on Radio Sagarmatha, Image Channel, and Metro FM.

Today, the Manokranti Centre’s YouTube channel streams his teachings daily, while his TV show Avibadan airs every morning at 6:00 AM.
